BUS INFO
As we countdown to the Bangkok meet, final preparations are underway. As you are aware, Fighting Fish coordinates a team bus to transport swimmers and families to and from the meet each day. The bus will pick up from the President Park Hotel each morning after breakfast and return to the hotel after the completion of each day’s events.
In order to more accurately inform you of the cost of this service and to ensure adequate bus seating, we need to get a rough idea of how many people wish to ride the bus each day. The current estimated cost per person for the round trip is Thai Baht 250 (approx US$7+) per day. The final cost will depend on the final number of people and buses.
If you are intending to ride the team bus, please email Vy Ton (vyton2000@hotmail.com) by 2 March. In your email, please indicate:
1. If you are riding the bus on Saturday only or both Saturday and Sunday.
2. How many seats you will need for your group.
The final cost will be communicated to you as soon as it becomes available. Payment will be collected in Bangkok before you board the bus. Payment must be submitted in Thai Baht.
ISB (International School of Bangkok) does a lovely job hosting and many international teams fly in to attend the two day meet:
Saturday 20 March 7am-6pm All regular meet events (25-100m)
Sunday 21 March 7am-12noon Distance events (100-400m)
ALL THE ADDITONAL MEET EVENT INFORMATION IS AVALIABLE BY CLICKING HERE
The meet is now open on Direct Athletics (www.directathletics.com) for registration. Participation in Sunday’s distance meet is optional.
Additional meet information is available on the ISB website (http://www.isb.ac.th/Splash_Meet).
Below you will find information on the team hotel. Buses are arranged to carry our entire group from the team hotel to the meet and back again.
Usually we fill up four buses on Saturday. Bus transport will also be provided to the Sunday distance meet. Last year the bus fee was THB 200 (US$6) per passenger per day. Baht payment is due before boarding the bus.
The steering committee has decided to return to the President Park Serviced Apartments that we stayed at last year. Further Hotel information avaliable by clicking here
Your serviced apartment will be clean, nicely appointed and roomy. However, the location is more residential than most hotels, and the hotel amenities will be limited. There is a nice pool area, gym, room service, as well as a breakfast room that becomes a restaurant during the day. Basic buffet breakfast is included in your rate. Both a supermarket and Starbucks are located within one block of the property. Ready to book? Room Request Document downloaded here
If you would like to stay in a luxury hotel or villa, the Davis hotel and villas is one block from the President Park serviced apartments and you could still ride the bus to the meet with everyone else.
NOW is the time to book your air flights! We do not suggest arriving late Friday eve as the wakeup call will be very early Saturday morning and Saturday is a long day! The meet will start at 8am. Warm-ups will start between 6:30 and 7:00am. We will depart the hotel between 6- 6:30am! ISB is located north of Bangkok. Most hotels are located in the center of the city. It takes around 30 minutes to get to ISB Saturday morning; and one hour or longer to get back to the hotel at the end of the day in traffic. The new international airport is located east of the city and you will encounter traffic on a Friday afternoon with the trip to the hotel taking almost one hour, maybe more.
It is possible to taxi back and forth to the meet on your own, but again, be prepared for traffic.
It is also possible to stay at a different hotel of your choosing, but you will need to find your own way to and from the meet.
Saturday night after the meet...all interested families will gather around the pool for a pizza dinner. Each family will have the opportunity to submit their order and payment ahead of time. A Fighting Fish representative will order the pizza and have it delivered poolside. More details coming soon!

Perth Swim Meet
Asian All Stars
3 -4 April in Perth, Australia
WHEN DO YOU NEED TO ARRIVE?
On Friday 2nd April afternoon around 3pm a team meeting and age group training session is held. It’s a great chance for the swimmers to meet each other and swim at the venue in the 50m pool. We do advocate arriving Thursday afternoon at the latest as most Friday flights will not arrive in time. Arriving Thursday will also give you a chance to see stock up on any supplies, snacks and shopping.
We do realize that not everyone will make Thursday flights and the team meeting and it is NOT essential. If your flights will not arrive in time please let Coach Helen know so she can keep your team uniform and pool entry permits for you
ACCOMMODATION/TRANSPORT
There are two team hotels giving special rates and bookings to Team Asia. The booking sheets are linked below this message. Both these hotels are within walking distance of each other, The Bus transport provided free of charge to and from the hotel/pool leaves from Observation city. Fighting Fish coaches are planning to go and will be staying at an apartment accommodation because it provides full cooking and laundry facilities. The rooms in observation city do have kettle and toaster. You are free to stay wherever you choose BUT accommodation at this time of year books out fast. You need to be booking somewhere by the end of February/Early March and be prepared to pay a surcharge for peak season. Please note there is no accommodation close to the pool, Scarborough is 10-15min drive away. If you do stay outside the Scarborough area you will need to hire your own transport. Taxi’s are expensive but car hire is fairly economical. If you are looking for a street directory use http://www.whereis.com/
POOL LOCATION
The pool is located at Challenge Stadium, 100 Stephenson Av, Mt Claremont, WA. There is 2 indoor pools and two 50m outdoor pools. We will be competing indoors, but the Friday session is often in the outdoor pool. All pools are heated but to only to a competitive lap pool temperature (Around 25 degrees - it will feel cold to Singapore swimmers!)

SHOPPING/EATING/MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION…
Easter is a BIG celebration in Australia. Both Friday 2nd and Monday 5th are holidays and nearly all shops around the country are closed. You will find some shops IGA supermarket stores and a few tourist stores open in various location of the city. To search for an IGA shop type the postcode of your accommodation here
http://www.nowwhere.com.au/IGA/StoreLocator/Search.aspx
Also your hotel reception could be able to direct you to the nearest open supermarket/ convenience stores. Shops around the Scarborough area including lunch bars, snack shops, coffee shops and restaurants are open. Last year the Coles shopping centre at Scarborough (5-10min walk from the hotel) was open until approximately 6pm Friday which gave everyone a chance to stock up on Gatorade/drinks/snacks for the meet. The kiosk at Challenge Stadium is open during the weekend and will sell drinks, snacks, hot lunches, sandwiches etc, The kiosk can be expensive, very busy at peak times and does not always have great nutritional choice. Pool Entry permits are given to every swimmer. Parents/siblings and spectators must pay a spectator fee to enter the pool area.
RETURNING TO AIRPORT
You will have noticed on your inbound journey Perth Airport can be incredibly slow! Do ensure you leave sufficient time to travel from Scarborough/Challenge Stadium (20-40min depending on traffic) AS WELL AS the required 2 hours for check in processes.
PERTH WEATHER.
The weather at Easter in Perth can be unpredictable. Some years it has been a sunny 28 degrees and other years you will get 12 degrees and showers. Do check the weather predication a few days before you leave. Evenings are always cool to cold so do bring some warmer clothes even if its predicted to be warm.
VISA’s
You do require a visa to enter Australia. This can be done online for most passport holders at. http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ If you are holding certain passports do allow plenty of time for visa approval.
